“He’s one of the best, genuine human beings I’ve ever met.”
John Schissel, Friend of Chuck Uram for 20 plus years
On December 24, 2004, the Rockford Cosmopolitan Club was saddened by the death of 40-year member, Charles (Chuck) Uram. He was a friend and mentor to many, and demonstrated the true value that is derived from volunteering and providing selfless assistance to the community.
Chuck will always be remembered by the Rockford community and the Rockford Cosmopolitan Club as the person to call upon to lead fundraising campaigns. Chuck was a fundraiser extraordinaire! He is credited with raising over $6 million for local organizations. His hard work earned him the Rockford Register Star’s Excalibur Award, honoring his charitable efforts that benefited so many Rockford organizations.
Although Chuck can no longer lead in life, his spirit will live on through this annual award created to acknowledge community leaders with Chuck’s style and record for lifetime achievement. This notable award honors an individual for outstanding philanthropic work and grants $5,000 to the charitable organization that nominates the award winner.
The Community Foundation is pleased to partner with the Rockford Cosmopolitan Club to celebrate Chuck Uram’s legacy. Each year the Charles G. Uram Lifetime Service Award is awarded at the Community Foundation’s annual dinner.
