John Flynn Memorial Scholarship


Purpose:  To provide educational resources to Pecatonica High School Senior students who are pursuing higher education.


Criteria:

Graduating Pecatonica High School Senior who is pursuing higher education. Applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.0/4.0 and have been involved in community service. Although not required, preference may be given to candidates with an agricultural background.

John Flynn 's Bio:

September 22, 1947 - March 11, 2006

This scholarship was established in loving memory of John Flynn who passed away in March 2006. A resident of Pecatonica, Illinois, John graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1965, and received a B.S. degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1970. He was a dedicated member of the Pecatonica School Board for 18 years, serving as President for the last 5 years. John co-founded the Pecatonica Education Foundation, was past-president of the Pecatonica Fans Club, and participated as a member of the Pecatonica football's "chain-gang" for over 20 years. He served on the Winnebago County Special Education Co-Operative, the Wisconsin Alumni Club of Rockford's scholarship committee, and the Pecatonica Improvement Association. John was a lector at St. Patrick Irish Grove Catholic Church for 25 years, volunteered at Provena St. Anne's Nursing Center in Rockford and was a long-time emcee for the Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade.

In honor of John, the Flynn family would like to congratulate and recognize a Pecatonica High School senior who has given back to the community through his/her community service and volunteerism. Special consideration may be given to candidates with an agricultural background.


Application Instructions:

To apply for this scholarship, you must complete an online application and submit a packet of additional materials in hard copy.  Both of these components MUST be RECEIVED by the March 1st deadline.

The scholarship packet requires your school counselor, registrar or principal to verify your academic information so be sure to allow sufficient time to submit the application.  Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
