Marion L. Bates Awards for Faculty Enrichment

The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNIL) is proud to announce the latest recipients of grants from the Marion L. Bates Endowment Fund for Faculty Enrichment. This fund supports educators within Rockford Public School District #205 by providing resources to further their intellectual development, enhance classroom experiences, and pursue innovative
educational opportunities.

This year’s grant recipients represent a diverse range of disciplines and creative professional development experiences:

  • Dennis Meacham, Barbour Two-Way Language Immersion (K-8)—Awarded $1,500 to support participation in the Rockford Kontraband 2027 Season, enriching music education and performance opportunities.
  • Nicole Mioni & Sarah Reinold, Brookview Elemantary School—Awarded $4,000 each to support cultural exploration of a Swahili-speaking country, enhancing global awareness and cross-cultural learning in the classroom.
  • Aubrey Barnett, Marshall Middle School—Awarded $2,000 to support Reimagining the Bard: Professional Development Through Live Performance Study, deepening engagement with classical literature through live theater.
  • Jillian Myers, Marshall Middle School—Awarded $3,236.69 to participate in Experiencing Traditional Crafts and Traditions at the North House Folk School on Lake Superior, connecting hands-on cultural traditions to student learning.
  • Erin Harner, Marshall Middle School—Awarded $1,600 to participate in Whisktakers Rising: Turning Curiosity into Craft Through Immersive Baking, bringing experiential learning and creativity into the classroom.
  • Carrie Goings, Marshall Middle School—Awarded $2,712 to photograph the 2026 total solar eclipse in Spain, integrating real-world scientific observation and visual storytelling into curriculum.
  • Jennifer Beksel, Roosevelt High School—Awarded $799.95 to create and maintain sustainable school and community gardens, promoting environmental stewardship and hands-on learning.
